The Hope and Goodness website and mobile application are owned and operated by Hope and Goodness, LLC, which is the data controller of your personal data.

We have adopted this Privacy Policy to explain how we process the information collected through the Hope and Goodness website (hopeandgoodness.com) and the Hope and Goodness mobile application ("the App"). It also provides the reasons why we must collect certain personal data about you. Please read this Privacy Policy before using the Hope and Goodness website or App.

We take care of your personal data and are committed to guaranteeing its confidentiality and security.

2. Personal Information We Collect

2.1 Website

When you visit the Hope and Goodness website, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, time zone, and cookies installed on your device. Additionally, as you browse the site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the site, and how you interact with the site. We refer to this automatically collected information as "Device Information."

We may also collect personal data you provide to us — including but not limited to name, surname, address, and payment information — during registration or when filling out forms on the site.

You can visit the website without telling us who you are or revealing any information by which someone could identify you as a specific, identifiable individual. If, however, you wish to use some of the website's features or receive our newsletter, you may provide personal data such as your email address, first name, last name, city of residence, organisation, and telephone number. You can choose not to provide us with your personal data, but then you may not be able to take advantage of some of the website's features. 2.2 Mobile App

When you use the Hope and Goodness App, we collect the following:

Information you provide to us:

  • Account information — your email address and password

  • Profile information — your preferred name and why you joined the app (collected during onboarding)

  • Mood entries — your daily mood check-ins and any notes you add

  • Journal entries — the content of your journal entries

  • Course progress — which courses you have started and completed

  • Chat messages — conversations you have with Hope, our AI wellness coach

Information collected automatically:

  • Usage data — how you interact with the App, which features you use, and how often

  • Device information — device type, operating system, and app version

  • Push notification tokens — to send you daily check-in notifications (only if you grant permission)

3. Why Do We Process Your Data?

Our top priority is the security of your data. We process your personal data only to the extent absolutely necessary to maintain the website, provide the App, and deliver our services to you.

Specifically, we use your information to:

  • Provide and maintain the service — deliver the App's features including courses, journaling, mood tracking, and AI coaching

  • Personalise your experience — tailor Hope's responses and course recommendations based on your history and preferences

  • Fulfil agreements — process any orders or subscriptions you make

  • Send notifications — deliver daily check-in reminders (only with your permission, which you can withdraw at any time in Settings)

  • Improve our services — understand how users engage with our features to make Hope and Goodness better

  • Communicate with you — respond to support requests and send important account information

  • Identify and prevent abuse — establish statistical information regarding website and App usage

Information collected automatically from the website is used only to identify potential cases of abuse and establish statistical information regarding website usage. This statistical information is not otherwise aggregated in a way that would identify any particular user of the system.

We do not use your personal information for advertising purposes, and we do not sell your data to third parties.

4. The AI Coach — Hope

The App includes an AI wellness coach called Hope, powered by Anthropic's Claude AI. When you chat with Hope:

  • Your messages are sent to Anthropic's API to generate responses

  • Conversation summaries are stored in our database so Hope can remember your journey across sessions

  • Hope is designed to be supportive and compassionate — but is not a substitute for professional mental health care, therapy, or crisis support

  • If you are in crisis, please contact a crisis helpline or mental health professional immediately

Anthropic's privacy policy governs data processed through their API and can be reviewed at anthropic.com/privacy.

5. Information Security

We secure the information you provide on computer servers in a controlled, secure environment protected from unauthorised access, use, or disclosure. We maintain reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect against unauthorised access, use, modification, and disclosure of personal data in our control and custody.

Your App data is stored securely using Supabase, a cloud database provider. All data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.

However, no data transmission over the Internet or wireless network can be guaranteed to be 100% secure.

6. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law. Mood entries, journal entries, and chat history are retained while your account is active so that Hope can maintain continuity and personalise your experience.

European Residents (GDPR)

If you are a European resident, you have the following rights related to your personal data:

  • Rights in relation to automated decision-making and profiling

Please note that we process your information in order to fulfil contracts we might have with you, or otherwise to pursue our legitimate business interests. Your information may be transferred outside of Europe, including to Canada and the United States.

Australian Users (Privacy Act 1988)

If you are located in Australia, you have rights under the Australian Privacy Act 1988. You may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.

California Residents (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), including the right to know what personal information we collect, the right to delete it, and the right to opt out of its sale. We do not sell your personal information.

8. Subscriptions and Payments

Hope and Goodness offers a subscription to access premium App content. All payments are processed through Apple's App Store using Apple's secure payment infrastructure. We do not store your payment card details. Apple's privacy policy governs payment processing.

To manage or cancel your subscription, visit your Apple ID settings.

9. Children's Privacy

Hope and Goodness is intended for users aged 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 17. If you believe a child has provided us with their personal information, please contact us at hello@hopeandgoodness.com and we will delete it promptly.

10. Links to Other Websites

Our website and App may contain links to other websites that are not owned or controlled by us. Please be aware that we are not responsible for such other websites or third parties' privacy practices. We encourage you to be aware when you leave our website or App and to read the privacy statements of each website that may collect personal information.

12. Legal Disclosure

We will disclose any information we collect, use, or receive if required or permitted by law, such as to comply with a subpoena or similar legal process, and when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, protect your safety or the safety of others, investigate fraud, or respond to a government request.

13. Push Notifications

If you grant permission, we send daily check-in notifications (8am and 8pm). You can disable notifications at any time in the App's Settings screen or in your device's Settings. We do not send marketing notifications.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you within the App or on the website. Your continued use of our website or App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
